This one is special. It's been almost a year since we fully started pushing our Alaska-based DTC brand Alaskan Fisherman. And what happened surprised not only me but everyone around. This is one of the most successful and fast-growing companies I've ever worked in. And now, we're expanding.

Briefly, why Alaskan Fisherman is a really interesting company

In a nutshell, the story is the best. We catch wild fish in the Bering Sea, one of the cleanest and toughest oceans on the planet (see the video below). What we catch, we process in our own factory, piece by piece, and deliver directly to our end customers. From a business perspective, we're building the first truly pure DTC brand in the seafood industry, controlling the entire process from catch to delivery.

Here's what makes us so proud:

  1. Alaska is one of the most regulated fishing regions on the planet. Wild salmon season happens only once a year, and we never know how long it will last or how many fish we'll be able to catch.
  2. The wild fish here live in the purest waters on Earth — that's what gives our final product its world-class quality.
  3. As one of the few who have permission to catch here in Alaska, we're able to deliver the best product you can get in the seafood industry.
  4. And everything you order is directly from us, our fishermen.

And yes, it's really hard. But owning the whole process from catch to delivery seems to be the right long-term strategy that can shape our brand to the highest level in the world, and we mean this really seriously. Alaskan Fisherman is an Alaska-based global brand.

And what keeps the fire in us?

  1. We're playing the long-term game. Our primary focus is on the best customer experience — every step we take is driven by a customer-first approach.
  2. And to make our super-happy customers even happier, we needed the best product. That's why we opened our first pilot season in our own factory in Alaska. What a bold milestone.
  3. And by the way, we catch wild fish with our own fleet (their names are Seabrooke, Incentive, and Wild Ireland).

What a fantastic brand. When we started our business model almost a year ago, demand exploded. We have thousands of people regularly on our waiting list — why is that? Because the volume we're able to secure for our members is limited, and even though the season of our main product is only once a year, we must be careful when adding new members to this unique ecosystem. That's why we decided to sell our product by subscription — we guarantee each member that even though the season happens only once a year, we'll secure their delivery for the whole year. And our members love it.

A little secret behind our quality

And for those who're interested in more details, here is one little secret behind our quality. To produce the world-class portion you've ever tasted, we've built our own manufacturing process called "Sakari". Briefly, what it means:

  1. We do NOT double-freeze fish — we freeze them only once, which is unusual on a global scale.
  2. After catching the fish, we immediately start processing — just hours after the catch. We were the first in Alaska to test this process (here is a short report).
  3. Each portion is manually checked and cleaned from bones.

This is a unique process we invented to become the best wild fish provider, offering a truly significant product to our customers. It surprises everyone who gets our portion on their table. And here are some pictures of our final product — see the perfect structure and deep red color.

And is this journey an adventure? Absolutely. Take a minute and watch our short flagship video showing the purest hard work during our catching season in Alaska. This is our fishermen in real action. And this is one of the best parts of our story.

And did you know that our boats have been featured on the legendary Discovery Channel in the series Deadliest Catch — one of the most successful and longest-running documentary shows ever produced? We're so proud of that milestone.

What's next? We're scaling internationally because we see a huge opportunity here in Europe. If you're reading these words right now, your next step is probably to visit Alaskan Fisherman's website to read more, or feel free to contact me with any question or offer to help us achieve our global ambitions.

Thank you, everyone, for reading this — let's have some fun.
